Ride Directions

0.0          Approximate 20 mile route along scenic country roads.  One
               challenging hill. 
Ride begins and ends at the Brownsville
               Pioneer Park. In addition to parking, there are bathroom and
               picnic facilities available.  The park has limited camping
               facilities and a covered pavilion for group use. See About
               Brownsville
for details.
               Exit on Park

0.1          Intersection Park & Main.  LinnCounty Museum straight ahead
               100 ft.  Coffee and home made snacks available atMain St.
               Coffee just to the right.0.2
                Right on to Averill

0.3          Left on Kirk

1.0          Look to your left at this point to see an old Hop barn.
               Just aheadthe road turns right and becomes Northern Dr.

 3.0          Scenic view and potential stopping point
               along the Calapooia River.

 3.2          Intersection of Mt. Home Rd.  Continuestraight on Northern Dr.
                
Beautiful views of small pastures with lambs in spring. Wild turkeys
                 may be seen along this stretch.

 6.9          Left on Hwy 228.  Hwy 228, a part of the national scenic byway
                system,  can be busy with trafficbut you won’t be on it long.

 7.0          McKercher Park.  Can stopto picnic or splash in the white water.

 8.0          Right on Courtney Creek Rd.  Thisis the location of the Crawfords-
                ville Covered Bridge.     Morethan worth a short stopfor photos.
               
About 100 yds east along Hwy 228 is the Crawfordsville Store.
               
Soft drinks and snacks are available.The store has a restroom.

                Follow Courtney Creek Rd when leaving the bridge. This road
                is winding with one incline and descent. Traffic is non-existent.
                Look for deer or even elk alongthe way.

 8.8          Begin Incline

 10.0        Summit   Not a greatclimb but your legs will know you
                did something.

 10.9        Road flattens never to go up or down again.

 11.5        Intersection of Little Valley Ln.

 12.5        Location of Courtney Creek School operational
                between 1850 &1926. Outhouse in rear.

 16.2        Left.  Hwy 228

 17.2        Location of AtaVista Farms.  Henry& Eliza Spalding
                invited by Brown to form a school.at this site.  School
                later became Lewis & Clark college. Spalding was a
                minister, school commissioner, Indian agent,gold miner
                and farmer.  Eliza’s tombstoneis oldest in cemetery.
