Pioneer Picnic 2013    Friday, June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd
Pioneer Picnic 2013
Linn County Pioneer Picnic is Oregon's oldest continuing celebration. The first Picnic consisted of a reunion of Oregon Trail pioneers in 1887. With the passing of time and the passing of the original pioneers, the Picnic has transformed to include other entertainment and activities. Today’s picnic focuses on family fun with games, food booths, a logger jamboree, equestrian events, talent shows and more! The theme for this year is “Pioneer Treasures.”

Grand Marshals will be the descendants of Linn County Pioneers. Anyone who is a descendant of a Linn County Pioneer family is invited to participate in the Parade as a Grand Marshal. The schedule will be announced in March and is expected to remain much the same as the previous years. One change to be noted is that the Pioneer Dam Run will be Saturday Morning before the Grand Parade. Look for more information on our Facebook page, Linn County Pioneer Association. Fourth of July in Brownsville is all you imagine a summer holiday in rural America to be. The morning begins at 7am, with a pancake breakfast at the pavilion in Pioneer Park until 10am. Pancakes, eggs, ham, syrup, hot coffee, all served with the entertaining antics of the volunteer fireman pancake flippers and the dancin' grooves of the serving chicks. $7 for adults, $4 for kids 10 and under.

First Annual Stand By Me Day    July 23rd, 2013
First Annual Stand By Me Day
The first annual Stand By Me Day will be on Tuesday July 23rd. Because it lands midweek it will be a low key event. The inspiration for having an annual day came from our friends in Astoria where they have an annual Goonies Day. Fans from all over the country fly in and enjoy each other and the scene locations from the movie. We plan to do a similar event here in Brownsville. Fans are welcome to come in costume, arrange picnics in Pioneer Park, take the Stand By Me walking tour and visit locations where the film was shot.

We are working on a trivia treasure hunt and other fun things for the fans to do while they are here. A hospitality room is being arranged where the fans can connect and share stories. The Pioneer Picture Gallery has a brand new Stand By Me display and will be open for viewing. The Brownsville Saloon is planning a few things for us too, possibly including breakfast with blueberry pancakes especially for the fans. Stay tuned for more to come.

The Calapooia Food Alliance presents Moonlight & Music: A Night in Casablanca    July 28th, 7-11 PM
The Calapooia Food Alliance presents Moonlight & Music: A Night in Casablanca
Join your friends for A Night in Casablanca. Your Moonlight & Music crew has laid out everything but the camels to transport you to the exotic kasbah and souks of Morocco. The evening is an oasis of delights with the scent of spices wafting on the summer breezes. And if you've never been to Sanctuary at Washburn Heights you may well believe you've been whisked away by a benevolent genie on his magic carpet as you step onto the terrace. Is this the whole of the Willamette Valley spread before you or are we really on the edge of the Sahara, with undulating dunes stretching as far as the eye can see. Paradise comes to mind. The word is derived from the Persian for a scented garden with fountains flowing--and that is what the evening will be like.

You will be treated to the traditional foods of the Mediterranean including dates, pomegranates, cous cous and tabouli--complete with ambience to match. LBCC's Chef Scottie is making flatbread in the traditional way—unchanged for over a thousand years. Visit Omar’s tent for a souvenir photograph of yourself and your best beloved relaxed on Persian rugs and pillows, dressed in finery fit for a sheik and princess of old Araby. There will be belly dancers swirling their veils to mesmerizing music, dancing as if to entertain the Sultan. Ask our DJ to play your favorite song and dance the night away, too, while enjoying wonderful foods, spirited drink, great friends and the exotic entertainment--not to mention the view.

Only 200 tickets are sold and this fundraiser for the Calapooia Food Alliance is a sellout every year so purchase your tickets today at Brownsville's Key Bank. Tables for eight can be reserved, too, by calling Tricia at 541 466 3035. A Night in Casablanca is for adults 21 or over. Tickets will not be available at the door. The Calapooia Food Alliance promotes healthy eating and sustainable local foods. Visit the Calapooia Food Alliance website at www.gocfa.org for additional information.
