The 4th Annual Brownsville Welcomes You
Home Storytelling Festival will be held on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27,
2010.
The Chamber is pleased to welcome National Storyteller Alton Chung to town for an exclusive performance Saturday evening with dessert at the Rec Center. He is a very animated storyteller with fiction and historical stories filling his repertoire. To hear a sample of his work, please visit his web site at www.altonchung.com. Alton has performed at Jonesborough, TN as well as venues in Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and more.
Tickets are $10 for all ages. They are available at Brownsville City Hall, Linn County Historical Museum, Albany Visitors Association or here on-line (shipping and handling fees apply on-line).
Schedule of Events
Friday, Feb. 26
6 p.m. - "Tunes and Tales" at the Corner Cafe
No host dinner with music and local storytellers, as well as an open mic for those who would like to showcase their skills.
Saturday, Feb. 27
11 a.m. - "Everybody has a Story" at the Community Center above City Hall
Training via the “StoryCorps” model of person to person interviews. Hobart McQueary tapes will be shown as an example of existing interviews. Tim McQueary has agreed to introduce the tapes his father did.
Noon to 1 p.m. - "Children’s story time" at the Library
Ages preschool to third grade are welcome to attend and the story will be followed with a craft.
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. - "Workshop on storytelling" at the Library
Fourth to eight grade children are welcome. Our main event performer National Storyteller Alton Chung will provide this educational hour. The focus will be on giving children the basics of what makes a good story, involve them with telling and eventually get them to tell a story of their own.

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - "Videos of Jonesborough Storytelling Festival" at the Linn County Historical MuseumTheatre
2:30 p.m. - Brownsville Storytelling Guild at the Library
All who are interested in starting a storytelling guild here in Brownsville are encouraged to attend.
3 p.m. - Brownsville Drama Club at Main Street Coffee
Your invited to attend a free full hour of entertaining performances
7 p.m. - Dessert with Alton Chung at the Rec Center
